The students in our classroom are considered at-risk. My students have been placed in my classroom due to their emotional behavioral disorders. Our mission is to attempt to bring meaningful change to the lives of our students, both educationally and socially. EBD students exhibit emotionally-based characteristics of sufficient duration, frequency, and intensity that interfere significantly with educational performance to the degree that the provision of special education services is necessary. Our days are filled with teaching social skills and coping techniques that they will carry with them throughout their lives in order to ensure success academically and socially.
My Project
Our Room of Wonders sensory room would be available for individual students under the supervision of an adult and would offer a nurturing, student-centered sensory supportive environment. It will be used to facilitate self-organization, self-regulation, relaxation, and sensory awareness, in order to integrate a student back into the classrooms or least restrictive environment. The vision of this Room is to have materials and equipment that provide a sensory stimulating space that is safe and appropriate for our students with sensory needs. I want my students to have a place that they feel like they are safe and are welcome so that they can come take a break calm down and return back to class.
