Help me give my students these classroom rugs. The circletime around the world rug is for morning meetings, letter naming, and science lessons about the earth. The other rugs are for calming and aesthetic purposes.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
These classroom rugs will be a major upgrade to my classroom. Every morning, we have a morning meeting where the students share how they're feeling that day. The students sit on the letters of the alphabet and they also line up on the letters. The globe in the middle will be conversation starters for science lessons about the earth and social studies lessons about different continents and countries. The counting to 100 rug will go in my calm down corner. Students who need to take a break to manage their big emotions spend time in the calm down corner practicing things like taking deep breaths, calming stretches, and counting to 20. This number chart rug will add additional activities that will help students calm their bodies down when they are feeling angry, sad, or upset. The circular rugs are for students to complete classroom activities with a partner or small groups. Students need to get up out of their seats regularly to keep their attention and get some of their wiggles out. The circular rugs will also be used to enjoy fun activities such as indoor recess or a classroom movie day. My students are sweet, lively, and enthusiastic. Many of them come from difficult home lives and need spaces for calming and a morning meeting where they can process through some big feelings. I am so grateful for this opportunity to be blessed with spaces in my classroom to help further my students' education and development. Thank you!
