Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in my classroom learn in a variety of different ways. Some thrive in lecture-driven format, and some prefer quiet work alone. This year, I want to equip each and every student in my Mild/Moderate Needs program to meet their IEP goals plus some! As a first-year teacher, I am very much getting a feel for how to best teach my classroom. By being flexible with each student and having all the necessary resources available, I want to give students options on how to best master their reading and math skills. Be this through digital learning (necessitating earbuds for quiet work) or through manipulatives (like the multiplication wrap up key), I want every student to feel supported. Some students have goals when it comes to managing money. A manipulative money board would be perfect for making these goals achievable.

At the end of the year, I want to combine the students' writing and math skills for a project where students design their own dream basement!

Students will make scale models (made of foam board, glued together with hot glue) of designs they've made for basements that they have custom designed themselves. They will write about each room in the basement, what fun things they each have, and why they designed it the way they did!

Again, as a first year teacher, I am very much figuring things out. However, I know that fun projects just like are great creative, hands-on activities for students to engage with. Please help me be the best teacher I can possibly be this year!
