My Project

In the hectic lives of modern-day high school students, it can often be difficult for learners to properly take care of themselves from a physical, mental, and emotional standpoint. I begin each class period by checking in with students: "How are you doing today? How can I help improve your day?" I've been shocked at how many of the responses I get to this second question are related to students being tired, sluggish, and most importantly, malnourished. I've made it a goal to keep (relatively) non-perishable snacks stored away in the class to help give students in need a quick morale and energy boost when in need. I've found that even having the smallest pick-me-up to offer my students has helped strengthen my relationships with my learners, building trust and rapport that pays dividends throughout the educational year.

While a little goes a long way in this arena, I've often found myself with nothing to offer these students, which is why I'm looking for additional support.

By being properly equipped and stocked with snacks to help all of my students in this arena, I can help improve their overall physical and mental well-being as well as turn this into an equitable offering, ensuring none of my students are left behind. My students are incredibly hard-working, kind, and motivated individuals who are still learning the importance of slowing down and taking care of themselves. One of my goals is to help them build habits and practices that will help them best take care of themselves long after they are in my class reminding them of the importance of nutritional health and taking a proactive approach to curbing their hunger is an amazing starting point.
