Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from the inner city and are mostly English language learners from low-income homes. They are hard-working, respectful, self-motivated young people who are eager to learn! Our school is a pilot school where students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members work together to create the best learning environment possible.
The school's philosophy focuses on social justice and leadership skills with an emphasis on critical thinking, 21st-century skills, and college.
We constantly are trying to find ways to be creative with the resources we have, but basic school supplies and books are what we need most at our school.
My Project
My students are so excited about reading. They helped me choose the books like The Wild Robot Escapes and Freckle Juice as well as the end of book tests we need for Novel Study. We also agreed that we need more bookshelves to keep our books in good condition and allow for easy to access to them in class. My students are learning about parts of speech so we chose several books that will help us learn and understand more about nouns, adjectives, verbs, pronouns, and adverbs. The end of the book tests will help us assess our comprehension skills.
