Hi! I am a first grade teacher in a wonderful school in Charlotte, NC. Most of the students at my school are on free or reduced lunch. We have a high percentage of students who are English Language Learners (ELL).
I just finished the second quarter assessments in reading. As I am reflecting over the data, I realize my students need more practice with reading fluently. This is of no surprise, considering how many students speak Spanish at home and speak English only at school.
To help my students read more fluently, I would like several books that contain a variety of nursery rhymes, song lyrics and passages. I will be able to use these books to help build my Fluency Center.
I am also asking for a class set of echo microphones. These microphones are non electric, yet they will amplify my students' voice through an echo. My students will LOVE to read aloud their fluency passages while holding a microphone! This will encourage them to practice reading aloud more often and will develop their fluency even more.
Thank you for reading my proposal.
