Help me give my students the necessary technology to infuse color into their everyday lives.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Kroll's classroom raised $258
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with a group of dedicated, hard-working, eager-to-learn 7th and 8th graders from low-income backgrounds; many of whom come from single-parent homes, while some live with grandparents and/or relatives. Many of my student population come with IEPs which require individualized interventions to help all students succeed. This comes with varying levels of learning challenges and more effort on my part to keep them engaged as often as possible.
When expectations are set high and excuses are left at the door, success is a requirement as opposed to an option.
The addition of a color printer to our Mathematics classroom will benefit my students in various ways. They will be able to experience what learning is like in vibrant color as opposed to the regular everyday black and white photocopies they have been receiving for years. Studies have shown that exposure to light in the morning, and blue/green light in particular, prompts the release of the hormone cortisol which stimulates and wakes us, and inhibits the release of melatonin. Happy colors are bright, warm colors like yellow, orange, pink and red. Pastel colors like peach, light pink or lilac can also have an uplifting effect on your mood. The brighter and lighter a color, the more happy and optimistic it will make you feel.
We don't think in black & white so why should we print in it?
The printer and ink will be used to make copies and to observe the positive effects of printing and reading in color as opposed to black and white.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
