Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

K-2 Self-Contained Special Education students use these materials on a daily basis.

The items listed here will help K-2 special education students access learning in a bilingual setting, make the school day exciting and engaging, and allow them to practice social emotional learning skills.

For social emotional learning, the students in our class will need noise-cancelling headphones, hand-held sensory toys, and the mindful maze board as materials that they can use to help them focus on their school work. If students are feeling elevated, they can use these materials to help them get to a place where they are ready to talk or ready to return to learning.

The dramatic doctor and kitchen play materials will be used by our bilingual K-2 special education students to access general education curricula, such as units on How to Be A Good Citizen, and Growing Fruits and Vegetables, as well as practice social emotional skills such as sharing and taking turns with a peer.

The caddies, computer pockets, and seat pouches will be helpful for students to store their school work, writing materials, items they want to have near their desk, or their computer log-ins. At the beginning of the next school year, these will also be used for social emotional learning purposes, as our students will be learning personal responsibility and how to manage their own materials independently.

The calendar will be a useful tool for our students, who always have questions about the schedule, about what the day of the week it is, whose birthday is coming up, or any other events that are coming up. Many students need to practice summarizing stories, so the calendar can be useful for the students in our bilingual K-2 special education class to practice talking about past events.
