My Project

I am a special education teacher in a C setting learning environment. I am hoping to provide reverse-inclusion time in my play-based centers to provide my students with the opportunity to learn and play with typical peers. My students learn best through explorative and structured play opportunities. The specific items requested will make a difference in my students' learning every day, helping to shorten the gaps in their education. Many of my students are not auditory learners who require extra processing time and concrete representations. They are tactile learners, and the items requested in this project not only fit with their learning styles but also their sensory needs.

My goal for this project is to provide more tactile play-based centers for ELA.

Alphabet puzzles and matches will help students correlate uppercase and lowercase letters and identify letters. Magnetic alphabet tiles and snap-together letter blocks will be used for letter ID and sounds, then progress to VC, CVC, and word-building activities. The mirror my sounds set can be an independent center option for students needing extra exposure to letter sounds and letter ID. The mirror set talks to the student, providing auditory representation, and has picture cards that show mouth formation, letters, and picture representation of the sound. The early language folder games set provides opportunities for my students to play and learn many early literacy skills. Magnetic phonics kits will be used in structured, adult-led centers for numerous early literacy skills, including blending and segmenting. The rhyming puzzles can be used as an independent or group center, a small group game, or a tool during small group instruction.
