Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is a Title I school with all of the students receiving free lunch. Over 80% of our students rely on school buses for transportation. My students range from 9th to 12th grade and many of them do not have a place to go after school. I created Gamers Unplugged, a board game club, to help students learn strategy, to practice the importance of following rules, and to socialize with other students. Board games have so much to offer for young students. I have had great turnouts with our group.
My Project
Many of my students do not have anything productive to do after school. This is how many of them may get into trouble. This is my attempt to keep the kids off the street and doing something productive.
They are learning how to work together in cooperative games such as Pandemic.
They will challenge each other's strategy in games like Splendor. They will learn to read complex rules and apply them to gaming in games like Star Wars Rebellion. Everything they have learned so far has also carried over to other areas in their academics. Board games have taught them lots and will continue to do so with your help.
