This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am so excited about my fifth year of teaching! This will be my third year with the same class, I started with them virtually in 2020 when they were only second graders. Last year I had the opportunity to be their third-grade teacher and now we get to move on to fourth grade together! My students are some of the hardest working, dedicated, bright young people I have ever met and I feel so blessed to work with them every day. Since this will be my first year teaching fourth grade our classroom is in need of upper-grade math materials!

I want my students to have access to quality learning materials that will best prepare them for the next grade.

The math manipulatives will help my students gain more confidence in mastering math skills involving fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, and place value. When students are able to first develop a concrete understanding of these math concepts then they are much more likely to perform these math skills and truly understand math concepts at the abstract level.

Additionally, I would love for my students to get the fourth-grade Scholastics News booklets and online access. This resource would integrate social studies, science, and reading while also keeping them up to date on current events.

I believe students should have access to quality learning materials no matter where they live or which school they attend. Our goal is to continue moving towards mastering fourth-grade content and these resources will help us achieve that!
