My students need materials (notebooks, blocks game, pens) for guided reading and math. These materials will help them to become more independent learners.
I teach at a Title I school in Virginia, where 80 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students utilize assistance based programs. Our students come to school every day, eager to learn and ready to take on the challenges of the day. Students come to school with the materials and supplies offered at our back to school bash.
Many families cannot afford to purchase school supplies.
Given these obstacles it is my job as their teacher to find the necessary materials and supplies they need to be successful.
My Project
I will use the Notebook Connections book to move my students into a deeper level of book responses. As well I recently read a book called DIY Literacy, so I will use the sketch pads to create anchor charts/guides for students to utilize as tools to guide their thinking into independence. Additionally, the rocketbook will be used to keep track of notes during student conferences to help set goals and keep an account of the students’ progress. The blocks are used with a specific learning game for math. The students pull a block and solve the math problem.
I believe these tools will increase the students' independence and deepen their level of understanding.
Students will take these tools and continue to use them throughout our classroom experience and beyond.
