My Project

This project is aimed at allowing students to express themselves through dance and movement in music class, also known as the Dalcroze method. It is a holistic approach to music learning that focuses on melody, rhythm, and improvisation through movement. Very often, students are shy or embarrassed when asked to perform solo, so these are activities that encourage whole class participation in a non-attention grabbing way.

Physical movement is a great tool for de-stressing and overall physical and mental health.

I would like to be able to bring a new element of art and expression to my classroom. There are many SEL activities we can do with a parachute and ribbons that encourage group participation/movement while teaching elements of music, like dynamics, rhythm, and moving in time, all while working together as a group to accomplish a greater task.

Most of all, I am looking to bring instant feelings of happiness and excitement and big smiles to music class, and what better way to do that with a little element of childhood? Who didn't smile at the thought of a parachute in gym class? Those were the best days! My students are very burdened with many issues, and this will surely help alleviate some of that stress and tend to their inner children.
