Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class this year is a room full of first and second grade movers and shakers. They are an active group of children ready to learn and play all day. I have a class of 28 students, half of them 1st grade and the other half 2nd. One half my class are english language learners. I have students who read far above grade level and some who have not reached their goal to read, yet.
Asking my students to sit still all day and be quiet would be the most unfair and unrealistic thing a teacher could do.
They need and want to be up and active, free to move around when possible.
My students have great goals for the school year, they all strive to read better than they do today. They are kind to one another and want to help each other succeed. Each day they do their own best to work towards academic and personal goals. These are great kids with amazing futures ahead of them. They deserve every resource I can provide them with to help them keep on track to reaching their goals!
My Project
My classroom offers students many chances to move around as they learn. We have beanbag chairs we put to use daily and students are often lying on the floor with clipboards while completing their work. These options allow for movement throughout the school day and all of my students would love to take advantage of flexible seating at all times.
Movement is essential to my student's learning and I believe that the best learning takes place when students are able to move their bodies throughout the day, consistently and frequently.
My project would provide our classroom with more options when it comes to movement. Stabili-T--Stools, wobble chairs, fidgets for fingers, cushions, and floor chairs will allow for the maximum number of students to be moving and shaking while learning.
In my classroom learning to read is done through routine and repetition. Adding interesting seating options to this is essential to keeping students interested and focused.
