Learning letter sounds is exciting! Many of the Buttercup Butterflies are ready to start identifying the beginning sounds of words. Help us learn that bats, bikes, barns, and babies all begin with the letter b sound. The tiny objects in these tubs really solidify this foundational literacy skill.

My students love building with blocks, singing songs, and learning about trains. We are members of a multi-age Montessori pre-k classroom on the south side of Chicago. Given this unique structure, our students really help each other learn and grow. We are in our first year as a program so my students are breaking some major ground! Since we are a new school, we are still collecting materials. Please help us build a beautiful community.
My Project
The Montessori philosophy is one that values real life experiences. These sound tubs expose students to actual objects segregated by letter sounds. This material is an essential piece to our language curriculum. We can use these sound tubs for a variety of purposes. We can isolate particular sounds or mix tubs for a sorting activity. Once students master the beginning sounds, we can use the same objects to teach middle and end sounds.
Have you ever been to a flea market or garage sale and noticed a twenty-something teacher feverishly combing through trinkets?
She isn't keeping those treasures for a bracelet. She is creating sound tubs for her students using real life objects. Although she enjoys the hunt, the process is time consuming and not always very fruitful. Please help me collect objects and deliver a beautiful experience for the Buttercup Butterflies.
