My Students

Our school is the only all-girls public middle school in the state of Kentucky. Our school celebrates its high level of cultural and socioeconomic diversity. Despite the struggles that our students encounter, they challenge us as teachers every day to give them a world-class education.

Nothing gives me greater pride than working with my students and allowing them to access an idea, a skill, or a competency that gives them inspiration for their own future goals.

I am working to help students see their potential in areas that they have never even considered possible before.

Learning, practicing, and implementing the engineering design process has been an exciting challenge for my students as they learn new ways to solve problems and interact, in a very hands-on way, with the world around them. My job is to give them the support, and the tools, to learn and cement these skills and hopefully consider a STEAM related path as they continue in school and life.

My Project

The KANO computer kits that I hope to add into my curriculum will allow my students the opportunity to learn through self-discovery, hands-on application, and next level challenges. These kits are designed to give students the opportunity to explore both the hardware and software side of computer science. Knowing not only how a computer operates, but also understanding how it is built and put together, will allow my students the level of understanding required for more advanced computer science classes in High School and beyond.

The students in my 8th Grade Advanced Computer Science classes have an amazing appetite for pushing the envelope and operating at the next level.

They require the technology and hardware to take their ideas and make them a reality. These kits are perfect because they are so open-ended. Students can use these kits, coupled with the design process, the tackle both simulated as well as real world challenges. Most amazing of all is how these kits can be wiped, disassembled, and reused with future classes. This helps guarantee a huge impact on class after class of students.
