My students need ink, a portable projector and a wi-fi extender in order to be able to create a new classroom environment as they are continuously displaced from their regular classroom setting.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are eager learners looking to find a safe and secure place to do so. However, Hurricane Irma caused a disruption in their learning environment and their ability to feel safe.
Our school was heavily affected by Hurricane Irma.
Many rooms were left with water intrusion and damage that has made getting back to normal life difficult. Any funds or availability of items is now being used to make repairs to the damaged caused by Hurricane Irma. I work in a Title 1 school where over 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Our school is located in the heart of one of the lowest socio-economic neighborhoods where many parents do not even speak English. Our students are in need of once again feeling secure and safe in their learning environment. Our students need to know that there are people willing to help and make a difference in their lives.
My Project
As a result of Hurricane Irma, many of our classrooms are unable to be used regularly and our students are continually misplaced from their room. Each time students are moved to different locations they need basic supplies in order to continue their learning environment as normal as possible. With a wi-fi extender we will be able to take our classroom laptops and use them in other locations in the school allowing them to always have access to technology. With a movable projector, we will also be able to create a classroom setting by setting up a screen and having students access their E Textbooks in any location they are at. This along with the ink will allow them to have the most "normal" classroom environment possible considering the situation they are placed in.
As a student in a low socio economic environment, you are constantly having to adapt to changing situations especially after Hurricane Irma.
If there is any way to help my students stabilize their lives and create a feeling of safety and security I would truly love to do that for them. These materials will make this feeling of normalcy happening once again for these boys and girls.
