My Project

My second graders have been building their love of reading throughout the first part of the school year. Second grade is a time when students start to transition from learning to read, to reading to learn. As they grow in their reading skills, they are able to start enjoying chapter books. This is a huge step and makes students feel like "they are really able to read."

Their faces beam with excitement as they open the book and move from chapter to chapter as they read.

They are always so excited to see what is going to happen next.

When students are able to start a series of books, it ignites their excitement and desire to read the next book. We live in a world of technology and at times it can be hard to keep the students interested in wanting to pick up a book and read. When they have an amazing classroom library full of books, it helps fuel their excitement and love for reading.
