This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
You’ll never meet a better group of kids than the ones that I teach. My students demonstrated the concept “Houston Strong” by their resilience after the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey.
We have a large population of students who are considered “at risk.” However, they come to school ready to learn daily.
They struggle to read and that makes science and social studies difficult. However, they are ready to explore the world of science and history. Those subjects are quickly becoming the scholars' favorites.
My Project
Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston Community. We are still in recovery mode. Students are still living in housing provided by the Red Cross. Some of our students live in homes that are still in the process of being repaired from the damage of the storm. Before the storm, parents were struggling to buy their children school supplies. Now they struggle just to provide a sense of normalcy.
My students are "Houston Strong" and we are resilient.
We are learning despite the odds. We are creating projects and building models in Science and Social Studies. The Classroom Bins will help us organize our supplies and work that is in progress. The privacy stations will help groups focus and shield their designs from others. The supplies like pencils and dry-erase markers will help us replenish those that have dwindled since the storm. Students are building models of various land forms and they are responsible for their own research and reports. Please help us continue learning .
