Moving Minds: Outdoor Play for First Graders’ Mental Health

Help me give my students outdoor equipment to play outside with to help with physical fitness and get a break from classroom instruction to give them a mental break from instruction.

My Project

My students are energetic, curious, and full of life! As first graders, they are learning so much every day—academically, socially, and emotionally.

But like all children, they also need time to move, play, and decompress to stay mentally healthy and focused in the classroom.

I’m requesting sports and outdoor play equipment to help my students get the movement and outdoor time they need. This includes items like footballs, soccer balls, chalk,and outdoor items designed for young learners.

Movement is essential for developing brains and growing bodies. Playtime isn’t just fun—it’s critical for emotional regulation, stress relief, and building social skills like cooperation and problem-solving. Especially after the disruptions of recent years, many of my students need more support than ever in learning how to manage emotions and build resilience.

With your help, we can give these children the tools to move their bodies, calm their minds, and return to the classroom ready to learn.
