This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Staying up to date on the latest evidence-based practices is important in my role as School Social Worker. This professional development project will provide me with educational tools and materials that can address the mental health, social and emotional needs of students in general and special education classroom settings.

The manuals, workbooks, and literature on child development, grief, anxiety, diversity, resilience, and self-esteem reflect the latest research and policies in education, mental health, and parenting.

Students will benefit from these resources in individual and group sessions by learning strategies and skills that build upon their social skills, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance, and mindfulness skills.

The Behavior Code books offer strategies and interventions to support students with anxiety related or oppositional behaviors. The book Supporting English Language Learners with Exceptional Needs, discusses culturally responsive practices and strengths-based approaches, supports, and interventions to meet the academic or behavioral needs of English language learners. The CBT and DBT skills workbooks provide fun and engaging activities for children and teens to improve communication, distress tolerance, self awareness, and self esteem.
