An EF-5 tornado brought destruction and devastation to our community, but we have joined together with volunteers from all over and are moving forward. As we prepare for a new school year, it's time for my students to move forward with bigger and better opportunities in a technology rich classroom.
My students are full of energy and life.
As fourth graders, they feel they can take on the world with no regrets. Majority of my school's students come from transient families that survive daily and struggle to make ends meet. The families in our school were directly affected by the tornado that left our hearts broken and our spirits full of hope. Several may be relocating, but the ones that remain have one thing in common: they need to know that they are loved. One way you can show someone that you love them is by being willing to meet them on their level. My students, like many across the country, are on track to becoming more technologically advanced than their parents. I want to show my students that I love them and help them see that their education is important to me by bringing my classroom into the 21st century.
My Project
Our district places a priority on technology in the classroom and has successfully trained and equipped our teachers with state-of-the-art equipment to use for teaching. I want to provide my students with new learning tools that will engage and motivate them to think outside of the box. With a Flip Video, students will be able to capture learning moments in the classroom as well as create videos that present the information in new, creative formats. A hard drive will allow them to save and transfer their projects to share with others. The toner will complete our computer station by keeping our printer stocked for the year, providing my students with ample opportunity to print research, published works, and more.
Our society advances technologically everyday; yet our schools still insist on teaching with the same old tools.
I'm tired of looking back. I want to help my students move forward in their education by providing them with the tools they need to be successful in the future. With your help, my students will leave my fourth grade classroom at the end of this school year as tech-savvy fifth graders.
