Moving for Mental Health: Fitness Equipment for 8th Graders

My Project

My 8th graders are at a critical stage in their academic, social, and emotional development. They face pressure from school, social media, and home life. Many come to school carrying stress, anxiety, and frustration, and they need healthy, constructive outlets to cope.

I am requesting basic gym equipment like hula hoops, shuttle cocks for badmitton, Nerf footballs, and foam balls to give students more physical outlets during the day.

These tools will be used during movement breaks, PE classes, and after-school wellness sessions.

Research shows, and we teachers see it firsthand, that regular physical activity improves focus, reduces anxiety, and boosts mood. Giving students structured ways to move can help them regulate emotions, release stress, and build self-confidence.

In a time when student mental health is in crisis, we need practical, everyday ways to support them. Not every student is an athlete, but every student can benefit from movement. This equipment will help level the playing field, giving all students a chance to feel better physically and mentally.
