This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a low income area where 83% of the students in the district receive free breakfast and lunch. Every child in my classroom has been diagnosed with an emotional disability. The trauma they have experienced has impacted their desire to study. These students read between a 1st and third grade level. Currently, they are not interested in reading, which is hampering their grades in all their core classes. Due to their disability, some cannot sit in a regular seat for any length of time. Being able to sit on a chair where they can move without disturbing others will be a huge asset to my students.

My Project

These seats will have a positive impact on my students. Currently we have regular seating for students who cannot sit still. They are constantly getting up and moving around. When this happens they aren't working on their assignments. These chairs will help them burn up energy while learning. While my students have be diagnosed with ED, they also have ADHD which makes it very difficult to sit down. The chairs used when I went to school do not make it easy for my students to focus on what is important and that is school. With the current chairs, they focus on excuses to get up and move. Sitting and moving while staying in one place, give these students an opportunity to improve their grades.
