My students need two iPad Minis to support active learning and their health.

My Students
Our class consists of sweet, creative, and active 6 and 7 year old students who come to school excited about learning. My first graders love to move around and love when a wide variety of technology is incorporated into their daily instruction.
Each day I strive to make learning rigorous yet captivating in a positive learning environment.
I love the enthusiasm first graders bring to school and hope to create life long learners who have only positive memories from their school days.
My Project
Research shows that kinestetic activity and learning go hand in hand. Students love to be in motion while learning. They also love a wide variety of technology. In order to combine these two very important aspects of learning, my students brainstormed ideas to incorporate exercise, reading, math, and technology in order to keep them active for at least 60 minutes throughout the day.
Bringing iPads in the classroom is a great way to engage all learners and promote fitness in nontraditional ways.
My students created numerous ways they would like to use iPads to increase activity and promote healthy lifestyles. First, they would like to create slide shows that flash reading and math fluency questions. Once they have filtered through 10 questions they get to take a brain break with a fitness task modeled by a previously videoed peer. Second, they want to video each other making up dances/songs to math facts and spelling sight words. The students believe that if they are able to dance and move while learning their fluency tasks it will serve as dual purposes - exercise and learning. They also plan to set fitness goals that will be accomplished on the playground equipment. They will use the iPads to record each other achieving these goals and then make slide shows on tips for setting/accomplishing the fitness goals. The students will participate in these fitness activities during Reading and Math Rotations and recess which will amount to a minimum of 60 minutes.
Our project is "kid-inspired" because the students got together in small groups and brainstormed these ways to increase activity in their lives. Having iPads in the classroom will definitely motivate students to move and groove while learning.
