Moving and Grooving in First

My students need playground balls to stay active during their recess time. The hokki stools and bouncy bands are for students who need to get their wiggles out while staying engaged in learning.

My Students

I teach a group of eager and very active first grade students whose needs range from talented and gifted to students who need intensive interventions to be successful in school. A typical day in our first grade classroom involves a lot of activity. The students are engaged in learning activities that get them moving, talking to their classmates, and asking great questions. You will not see a lot of worksheets in our classroom. My students are learning through hands on experiences and movement.

My Project

My kids brainstormed ideas to make our class more active and some of the resources that they wanted to include into our classroom are hokki stools, an assortment of sports equipment, and bouncy bands for chairs. All of this will allow my students to sit while staying active at the same time. The hokki stools are unique, as they transform stationary sitting into an activity. They are also ideal for brainstorming sessions and other active sitting environments. The children are moving, even when they seem to be sitting still, without distracting others.

Movement in all directions is critical to student development, as physical movement both increases well-being and encourages the physical and intellectual maturing process.

I believe all items will benefit the minds and bodies of my first grade students and provide constant stimulation needed to be engaged in the learning process.
