it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a public 1st grade classroom in the heart of Reno, NV. My students are highly impacted, at-risk students who face trauma and hardship on a regular basis. Many students are, or have been, homeless and in alternate living situations. Parents are often unable to help in the classroom or attend school functions.
Despite their difficult home life, students come to school each day and try their best.
When interesting, hands-on projects are available the class as a whole shows an elevated level of engagement and interest in learning.
My Project
Many of my students have been diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or just simply need to move their body! Students are often out of their seats, playing with pencils, crayons, etc., and off task. Students who struggle with sitting and doing their work often need to move their body in some way.
Students who can pedal their legs, kick their feet, or sit in a different area of the classroom are often able to focus their thoughts and stay on task.
I have seen my students succeed when they are able to use items like these. My students will love getting their work done with these items!
