it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please help my PreK students have the opportunity for fun and active play to promote learning during their school day. I am a K4 (PreK) teacher in a high need community. My PreK students attend a full day PreK session, but do not have the opportunity to attend any "special" classes, such as physical education, music, or art due to limited availability of these teachers. Being in school all day is a challenge for a four year old learner and they have a difficult time sitting still for an extended period of time. It is my job to provide them with opportunities to get up and move while still learning. Four-year-old students learn best through hands-on creative activities and I am in need of materials so that they can have these experiences everyday in my classroom.
If you have ever spent time with a four-year-old then you know that they are always on the move. PreK students thrive on active play and movement activities and need to have the opportunity for these experiences throughout the school day. Unfortunately at my school my PreK students cannot attend physical education, art, or music. We do not have enough of these teachers to accommodate the PreK classes as well as the rest of the school. Therefore, it is up to me as their teacher to provide them with the opportunities to tap into their creative resources. Research has shown that young children learn best through hands-on, concrete activities. There is also a growing number of overweight and obese children in our country because of the sedentary lifestyle that many Americans lead. I want to show my students that exercise and movement can be fun and that we can learn at the same time. At this time, I am in need of resources to support the active play and movement that I want to implement into my classroom this coming school year.
To support active play and movement in my classroom, I am in need of active play resources. My school does have a large outdoor playground, but I do not have any materials for them to use when they are out there. I am in need of playground balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, and bean bags so that I conduct active play learning activities even when we are outdoors. We also spend a great deal of time in our classroom and I try to incorporate creative movement into much of what we do. To help, I would like to have rhythm sticks and activity scarves as well as the activity Cd's to go with these resources. They will provide my students with the opportunity for hands-on learning and creative movement even when we are not outside. Many important PreK skills and concepts can be taught through movement, such as: letter/sound recognition, number skills, colors, shapes, and even social skills like sharing, manners, and working together. With these resources I will be able to provide my students with the experiences that they would get if they were able to attend physical education and music classes. These resources will get my students moving and tap into their creative abilities!
You will make it possible for my students to have the opportunity for active and creative movement during their school day. With these resources my students will have the opportunity to come together and build a bond through movement and learn how to work as team. Your help will ensure that I am able to implement active play in my classroom this school year and will ultimately benefit the students who walk through my door. This gift will be used to bring smiles to the faces of my students as they dance with the activity scarves, make music with the rhythm sticks, or play cooperative learning games with the balls, hula hoops, and bean bags out on the playground. Please help me bring active play and movement into my school community and my classroom, as well as, help my students to have the opportunity for hands-on creative experiences through which they will learn and grow!
