Our school is a Title I school in the Georgetown, South Carolina. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, with many below the poverty line qualifying for free and reduced lunch. As a school, we work hard to meet the needs of our students on a daily basis.
Our school is like a family with members depending on each other for support, love, and community on a daily basis.
Students, faculty, and staff care about each other and work hard throughout the year to grow as a community.
My Project
Interactions between family and school are so important for the academic development of students. The more parents are involved in their child's school, the more successful the student is academically. Likewise, students need to be able to interact with students in both formal and informal settings to develop deep, meaningful relationships that will help students excel academically.
This year we are working to broaden the horizons of our academic interactions with families and students by hosting family movie nights.
Students will be able to have a fun evening at school watching movies on the big screen, and spending time with teachers in a less formal setting. At the same time parents will be able to schedule meetings with teachers while having meaningful family time.
21st century schools have to be innovative to get families involved, and meet the needs of all its stakeholders. We just need the supplies to get there.
