The kindergarten experience is exciting for my students! Each group has mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to be good friends or hold a paintbrush. My class always loves to play outside, learn new games, and wiggle to some fun brain breaks!.
In our class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
As my students make gains in my classroom, their pride is evident! My classroom is about building skills and building a positive classroom culture where students want to learn.
In our classroom, we of course focus on academics but also on developing social skills and building our character. They have opportunities to create and build in all aspects of the curriculum.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, lap desks, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students attention and work completion when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when there are movement options.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work and provided with sensory and movement opportunities.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools are perfect for our tables. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. The Big Joe bean bag chairs will be wonderful for students who need the comfy seating options. The chair bands and the fidget toys will be great for students' sensory needs.
I have seen how choice and movement can positively affect my students work and demeanor. I am excited to add these options to the classroom to continue to meet students' needs.
