Movement = Learning!

My students need to stimulate the vestibular system of their brain while they work. I already have 6 exercise balls and would like to add 9 more. This would be 1/2 of my seats.

My Students

My students are growing up in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina. They are as diverse as these hills! Some of them are growing up in one of the most affluent neighborhoods in Asheville. Others are living in one of the most economically struggling neighborhoods.

Despite this, they have many more similarities than they do differences.

They love to explore and create in our STEAM Makerspace through project based learning. They love to problem solve. They love a good story. They love to work together to learn.

My Project

These exercise balls will allow my students to add a little movement to their day. Brain research has shown that stimulating the vestibular system can aid in concentration and a longer attention span.

This has been a long held belief for students with ADD/ADHD.

However, I have found this to be true for all students. I currently have six exercise balls in my room and the kids love to sit on them. I use them as a reward/incentive. I would like to gradually replace all of my traditional seating with exercise balls.

Adding nine more would replace half of the chairs in my room with this type of seating.
