Without your help, our 5th grade classroom would not have been able to have a classroom library. Because of your generosity, we have been able to purchase a variety of science texts at multiple reading levels and we now have a fabulous library of books for the students to choose from! \r\n\r\nCarl Sagan once said, \"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.\" This is the way one can view reading in our science classroom. The books on the shelves of our classroom library expand upon what we learn in our science lessons and go beyond into subjects that surpass the finite scope of classroom instructional time. We have books on various levels of reading so that a student's reading ability does not hinder them from exploring science on their own comfort level. Students regularly come into class and choose one of the many books off of the shelves and keep it beside them during class, knowing that they can read when they finish their classwork. I choose books from our shelves to read aloud to students to bring to life a topic that we are studying such as the human body, chemical and physical changes, or thermodynamics. When completing class assignments involving research on a specific topic, students often go to the classroom library for extra references for facts and images pertaining to our study.\r\n\r\nReceiving these books brought smiles to the students faces and caused their eyes to light up with the possibilities before them. Every day I teach a wide range of students of varying abilities. One is an aspiring future MIT student, who begs for more science lessons and steals away books every chance he gets. Another young girl isn't allowed toys, books or computers at home, but comes to school with a smile knowing that she can enjoy our books, her books, each and every time she is in the classroom. The difference one book can make on one student is priceless, and because of you all students have been blessed with a rich classroom library available to them. \r\n\r\nWith the light of knowledge in our eyes and warm kindness in our hearts, thank you.","fullyFundedDate":1730116063843,"projectUrl":"project/new-teacher-new-classroom-library-neede/8658257/","projectTitle":"New Teacher, New Classroom Library Needed","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lefevre","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9669398"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_101935","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":715,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":9,"percentWhite":54,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"5 - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":73.1,"schoolId":101935,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Charles T Koontz Intermediate School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Charles T Koontz Intermediate School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/buncombe-county-school-district/charles-t-koontz-intermediate-school/101935"}
