Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently working with children with Autism. I would like my students to participate in a movement group/yoga section. This section consists of floor exercises, stretching, and yoga. The movement group/yoga section helps the students to learn to follow directions, to strengthen their body, and to identify and learn body parts. In addition Yoga is a great way to stay healthy. Yoga has been proven to help children with Autism by balancing chemicals, such as neurotransmitters, in their bodies. My students are in the need of yoga mats in order to participate and exercise their bodies. Without mats we cannot teach the movement group/yoga section, or other deep stretching activities, because these floor exercises require protection and padding for the hard multi-use or classroom floor. The yoga mats also help to define and identify the students' personal space and/or limitation since it's hard for my students to stay in one spot because of health conditions such as ADHD.
The acquisition of the yoga mats will benefit students to live a healthier life and promote continuous exercising and learning for many years.
