My Students

The students I am so privileged to work with everyday come from diverse familial backgrounds, economic circumstances, and skill sets. I have a student who has been writing her own songs for years, and a girl who is currently helping her father run their farm. Our school is a place of gathering and learning for all community members.

Currently, we are experiencing a dramatic shift in the way we set up and deliver our curriculum.

We hope to honor our community by making sure that our students are equipped with the motivation and ingenuity that the world that awaits them will undoubtedly require.

My Project

In order to increase engagement within my classroom, I would like to increase the flow of oxygen to my students’ minds. Traditionally, students have been expected to sit for long periods of time, which gets in the way of them building the core strength they will need to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.

By having these exercise balls available to students, I can help them get the physical activity they so desperately need as I am engaging their minds in our daily lessons.

For example, I envision teaching students several exercises that they can do while independently reading. I can also see us utilizing these balls to keep my kinesthetic learners moving. During our brain breaks, I would like to design activities that could involve the entire class moving and building strength. Overall, I think it is vital to the health of my students that they learn how to be academically engaged while being active.
