Help me give my students mini trampolines, wooden steps, Gonge riverstones, and balance boards to improve their abilities with eye-hand coordination and balance skills that will help improve academic abilities, problem-solving, and attention.
My students range from grades kindergarten through fifth grade and have been identified as children who need to learn in different ways. They enjoy movement, hands-on activities, and authentic opportunities which increase their motivation and interest in learning.
As education continues to change and technology is used more and more in the classroom setting, my students are getting less exposure to movement and play that is essential to the development of different areas of the brain.
Those areas contribute to academic growth, coordination, visual perception, and visual motor skills. Play and movement is also an important part of vestibular skills like balance, hand-eye coordination, and auditory learning.
My Project
Students need more organized movement opportunities to increase abilities with academic tasks. Using "Movement for Our Minds" materials, we are hoping to find students with increased attention to task, bilateral coordination and problem-solving skills, as well as improved visual-spacial and visual-perceptual skills.
Wooden steps will increase the students' sense of body in space and will improve attention as they go up and down, forwards and backward.
Gonge Riverstones will improve balance, problem-solving, and eye-body coordination skills. Scoop ball games will improve eye-hand coordination, visual perceptual, and assist with the students' abilities to copy from the board and from a near sample. Vision bead strings will improve eye stability and focus. This will assist with writing and math tasks.
Through this grant project, our goal is to provide students with organized movement opportunities in order to increase brain growth and development. While we exercise our muscles, our students will also be exercising the most important part of our bodies....our brains!
