Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all native Spanish speakers that are enrolled in a One-Way Dual Language Program. This means that we learn English Language Arts and Math in English, and Native Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies in Spanish. Our program is committed to helping our students to become both bilingual and biliterate.
My students, like this mosaic, are unique individuals that come together to create a masterpiece.
My students are creative, thoughtful, and energized by learning! They are scientists, authors, and the leaders of tomorrow.
All of my students receive free lunch, breakfast, and a snack at school. The childhood poverty rate in our district is among the highest in the state and many of my students face challenges with hunger and unstable housing. Despite these challenges, my students and their families are highly involved in our school community and we continue to work together to ensure the success of our students.
My Project
My students are high energy and are constantly on the move. They crave movement throughout the school day. Brain-based research shows that the more opportunities they have for productive movement, the more successful they will be in meeting the academic demands of learning two languages simultaneously.

The items being requested will help students with a range of sensory needs to be comfortable and focused in the classroom. Students who need to fidget a little bit would benefit from a Bouncy Chair Fidget Band that wraps around the legs of their chairs. Students who are constantly tipping and leaning in their chairs would benefit from a stool or balance ball so that they can twist and turn in their seats in a safe and productive way. Balance disks encourage active sitting and promote focus and posture for students. This variety of options is requested to meet the various needs of students.
