Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Dual Language school and work with 36-40 students each year. My students speak both English and Spanish, and they come from homes where either English or Spanish are spoken. They are excited to learn, and school is a safe place for them. All of my students are language learners (either learning English or Spanish), and they share their linguistic and cultural gifts with each other in the classroom.
My students are eager to take on challenges and often surprise me with their creativity and perseverance.
They have faced many obstacles in their daily lives and show their resilience every day. In the classroom, I provide my students with hands-on, challenging activities to engage them in their learning. I love to see their excitement when they discover something new!
My Project
My students are eager to learn and to engage in problem solving activities. We do not have the STEM supplies that the students need in order to truly expand their creative thinking. I have seen my students succeed when they are able to participate in hands-on projects, and I know that their ideas will soar to new heights with the high-quality STEM materials that I have requested.
It is also difficult for students to focus when their bodies are full of energy, which is why they need alternative seating.
The Flex-Space wobble chairs that I have requested will allow them to move while learning. Although we already participate in many activities that involve movement, it is not enough for some students. Research has proven that when students are allowed to move, their concentration improves.
Children have a natural desire to learn and create; my project aims to support this innate drive so that all students can be successful.
By donating to my project, you are helping to support my students. Their concentration, innovation, and problem-solving skills will be enhanced with access to alternative seating choices and interactive STEM materials. The wobble chairs will promote success in all content areas. The STEM materials align with our science curriculum as well as the Next Generation Science Standards.
