My Students

I teach 21 third grade students at Emma Havens Elementary School in Brick, New Jersey. My students are wonderful and eager to learn, but their ability levels are so varied that I find myself individualizing, not only for my inclusion students, but also for the entire class. In our special education classroom, sitting still is next to impossible.

The flow of the room with traditional chairs and desks makes it difficult for me and my students to navigate from one set of activities to another.

Traditional desks can also make students territorial or possessive over their space and supplies. Flexible seating encourages students to share both. And, it encourages them to take turns in different locations and with different seating options.

My students need the opportunity to move throughout the day to help with attention issues. Students should be provided the opportunity to choose the learning space that best suits their needs.

My Project

Children need to move! The flexible seating I have chose will allow my students to wobble, rock, and bounce, which will increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student. The Comfy Floor Seats will provide flexible classroom on my carpet or at a table! The chairs feature cushioned back supports that adjust to the perfect position…simply lift the backs of the seats to a comfortable height, then just lay them flat for convenient storage! The Flex-Space Beanbag Chair will provide cozy, flexible seating for reading, classroom activities and more! Last but not least The Flex-Space Wobble Chairs are ideal for those students who like to wiggle and wobble while they sit, each safe, stable chair has a rounded base that allows students a little movement—without tipping over! And the super-lightweight design makes the chairs easy for kids to pick up and carry anywhere in the room! By giving my students the ability to choose they will learn to take turns and share supplies, collaborate by easily pairing up or working in groups. They will be motivated to earn and keep their favorite spots. Plus comfortable students are more relaxed and more focused!

A flexible classroom will give my students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.
