What better way to get in some exercise and movement during the regular school day than to set up a silent disco in music class?! Kids love music, love being outside the classroom, so it is time to combine the two!
This activity will allow students to be outside on campus while still being involved in music class, getting a much-needed break from sitting and the usual classroom scene.
I want to encourage more student interaction and friendship building in our ensembles, and music is a great way of encouraging that to happen. Silent discos are great! They let you move and dance all to music that only you can hear, so we can all engage in the same activity, not bother the rest of campus, and enjoy each other's company!
While we are listening to a piece of music as a class, they can take the time to journal while we are outside, observe nature, and just be with each other in a safe, controlled environment with music as the ice breaker! We can also take some time out from our busy days to have a dance party and just let loose and have fun. Music class needs to be engaging, and a place where students can physically make or move to music.
