My Project
I work in a District 75 Special Education setting where my students face many challenges. My students range from 5th grade to 8th grade. They are all on the Autism Spectrum. This means there are multiple learning styles among my students. "Move to Improve" is a way for students to exercise while learning.
The daily schedule for my movement class consists of Zumba, Obstacle Courses, Yoga, and Step Aerobics fitness.
In addition, students will work on color discrimination, hand-eye coordination, and team cooperation. Each of these activities requires specific equipment to help them reach their goals. For example, students will explore and interact with multiple activities that include multi-step commands during an obstacle course activity. Students will also learn how to control their balance, improve motor coordination skills, follow directions, and refine their listening skills, which will increase focus.
My goal is to reach each individual student and help them meet their physical needs and goals. In order to succeed, I need to meet my students by catering my strategies to their abilities. Please allow me to continue to help my students flourish to the best of their abilities.
