My Students
My students from North Carolina are part of a brand new sensory-motor program that gives children (Pre-K-5th grade) an opportunity to thrive throughout the school day by teaching them skills that will help them to focus, reduce stress, and regulate their emotions.
My students are full of energy and love having an opportunity to creatively move and explore in the lab!
They have been so excited about the first project we had funded that got our sensory lab up and running with basic equipment such as balance beams, Bosu balls, and mats. Now we need additional materials!
My Project
These pieces of equipment will continue to enhance my sensory-motor lab. I was blown away at the support of my first Donor's Choose project, which enabled me to get the program up and running.
In the sensory lab, students participate in intentional movement activities to help develop the senses in order to maximize student achievement!
Since the start of the program, the amount of students coming to the sensory lab has increased drastically. In order to best meet the diverse needs of my students, I am asking for this additional equipment.
There are several items that will be used for heavy work, such as medicine balls, resistance bands, and a tug of war rope. Many of my students need these items to engage their proprioceptive sense, or bodily awareness because it helps student's to feel centered. I also have a spin disc to engage the vestibular sense. Many of my students need to move to focus, pay attention, or release frustration, which is why I have listed fidget tools and stretchy strings.
