My Project
Hello! Please help me to provide more opportunities for my students to explore and support their sensory needs. I work with special education preschoolers with speech/language disorders. Many of my students have other needs as well include neurodivergence and sensory integration difficulties.
I want to create an environment that provides opportunities for my students to explore and play with materials and objects that engage their different senses.
The sensory bottles and other sensory based objects would engage my students with visual and tactile information. The smocks would keep my students from getting dirty when engaging in water-based play or foam play.
I would like to provide alternative seating for students who are not yet ready to sit at a table for structured tasks. I would love to have more student led opportunities in my sessions as well. The yoga mats, cube chairs and foam mats will allow my students to get up and move their bodies to explore and advocate for their needs.
I want to meet my students where they are. This includes sitting on the floor and engaging in child-led play. I want to incorporate more movement activities that has been proven to support spontaneous language.
The more my students are able to have their sensory needs met, the greater they will be able to self-regulate and engage and participate in their speech/language sessions.
