My Students

My students come from a very rural, family oriented community whom many struggle to make ends meet to provide for their families. My students are a very enthusiastic, energetic, and curious group, who love coming to school! I work hard to create a caring and nurturing community within our classroom itself so that my students feel comfortable, safe, and successful. I am very hopeful that this Donor's Choose project will help to create a classroom where ALL students can grow to become and happy, healthy, and sucessful 2nd graders.

My Project

Not all students learn the same. Many students struggle in school without the ability to exert their energy. Many of my students need to have the ability for considerable movement during learning in order to focus their attention during instruction and actually retain the information and follow directions. This can be a daily struggle for some children, and also present great distractions and challenges for ALL students in the classroom! I have several students in my class who could highly benefit from stand up desks where they can choose to have the freedom to move while learning.

Children at this age need to move and so often in education, we tell them to stop moving, sit still, sit up, pay attention.

The stand up desks, and the other movement tools in my DonorsChoose project, could allow my students just enough physical movement to be more comfortable so that they can focus their mental energy on following directions and completing tasks. My most important job as a teacher is to help my students become confident and successful learners in a safe and comfortable environment. Fulfilling this Donor's Choose project would be a HUGE step towards helping my students become successful!
