My students need equipment such as hula hoops, balls, and bean bags to play and get exercise. I want to make learning fun and playdoh is a great resource for play, language arts, and math.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My students like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical. From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The donations for this project will help my students stay active and healthy. They will have equipment that will allow them to run and exercise. This project will also improve my classroom by reducing the amount of behavioral issues, because I will be able to provide the appropriate stimulation that my students need, but cannot voice, due to their disabilities. With less behavioral issues, we can increase our learning and time on task. I'm looking forward to seeing my students happier and ready to learn. Playful behavior appears to have positive effects on the brain and on a child’s ability to learn. In fact, play may function as an important, if not crucial, mode for learning. Kids pay more attention to academic tasks when they are given frequent, brief opportunities for free play. The equipment for the playground, as well as the playdoh, will help me create opportunities for play.
I believe it is important to meet the students academic needs as well as their overall health and wellness needs.
