My Students

Students in my classroom have been using stability balls as chairs in my room for years. Movement while sitting has increased my students' concentration and learning experience.

I am a seventh grade English teacher.

My classroom includes a variety of special needs students integrated into the regular classroom. Our public middle school is also very diverse including many military and low income families. The vast range of backgrounds leads to a large gap in their learning abilities. In one class, students could range from learning disabled to gifted.

My Project

The balance discs will give students another option in seating with movement. Students will be able choose which seating option makes them the most comfortable and able to learn. The balance discs may be less distracting to other students than the stability balls we already have in the classroom.

My goal is to enhance the learning environment by providing seating that allows for "active" sitting which improves attention and concentration, posture, blood flow, flexibility, coordination and balance.
