I have a very enthusiastic, cheerful, hard-working group of students with special needs, who love to learn! They are super motivated by games and gross motor play which allows them to strengthen their core and exercise.
With Covid-19 they are unable to play on the playground equipment and their gross motor activities will be greatly impacted.
It is a blessing to me to watch them learn and grow each day. I set very high expectations for my students so they may raise the bar in their own personal goals in the classroom.
I hope to add some engaging materials to meet their learning needs so they may achieve a greater level of learning. This will only motivate them to strive for greater in the future. I am a firm believer that my students will move mountains if we only give them resources to do so.
My Project
My classroom is a special needs classroom. I teach a variety of children with different diagnoses, disabilities, and academic levels. My students struggle with daily living skills as well as social skills. Many do not have access outside of school to the supplies that are needed to maximize their quality of life.
By maximizing their strength and agility, they are able to move more independently and develop self-confidence.
Regular use of a trampoline helps to strengthen bones, develop muscle tone, and improves balance and kinesthetic responsiveness. When they’re bouncing, children develop balance and how to position their body to do certain movements. Young children develop large motor skills while learning how to do basic bounce maneuvers. Developing muscle mass and strengthening bone density helps children who have physical limitations. Bouncing increases a child’s ability to integrate their movements into coordinated, full-body motions and increases their spatial awareness. Adapted Swings provide extra support for students who have limited mobility, limited body control, and ensures proper positioning and ample upper body support. The swing enables children with special needs to enjoy swinging while helping improve body strength, balance reactions, motor planning, and posture.
My students are constantly seeking somewhere to go for a much-needed break for sensory output. These students need a safe and calming area that they can have their needs met.
