My Project

My students are my ultimate "WHY". They are behind everything I do and what makes our classroom such a special place. Each year I have the most amazing minds walk through my door. Everyone is ready to be challenged, engaged, and loved. This year will be a new group of "Heedes" and a new success story.

My class is a unique and diverse group that includes several ELL (English Language) learners.

Language acquisition is at the heart of our lessons. We work on proficiency in content objectives, as well as language. When I work to develop lessons, I not only think about "what" the students should be learning, but "how" the learning will be demonstrated.

Third grade is the most wonderful grade and I love it so much. It is not uncommon to have 3rd-grade kiddos come unprepared to meet the grade-level standards. Some even perform at a first and second-grade level, which presents the need to differentiate instruction. Many students require interventions in the area of math to catch up.

With 13 years of classroom experience, I have learned the value of teaching through play. Along with continuing to work on necessary social skills such as turn-taking, and reinforcing academic language, my needed math materials would provide my students with more engaging activities in the area of math. These materials would support our learning in multiple areas of math including addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, finding area/perimeter, developing an understanding of fractions, and telling time. These activities could be used in a variety of ways including whole-group instruction, center-time activities, and fluency practice.

Solving problems can be difficult and frustrating. Please consider donating to my project to help me provide my students not only with necessary materials for learning, but resources that could change their mindset.
