This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Throughout my years of teaching I have seen the most student success with hands-on learning centers. My second grade students love to experience different literacy, math, and science activities, while collaborating with their classmates.

I work at a Title One Elementary School.

Most of my students are on a free or reduced priced lunch program. These students come from all different ethnic backgrounds and may not speak the English language fluently. These students need additional assistance and support at school to be successful. Educational centers are a valuable learning tool to improve student achievement. Unfortunately, my school does not have the funding to provide new learning materials therefore, I must purchase all my own supplies for the classroom.

My Project

Through the purchase of math and science materials, my students can rotate around the room to participate in hands-on learning activities. The science reader kit allows students to read and work in groups to complete the activity associated with it. The math literature books students can read together, then review the skills on the math boards. The puzzles and balance scale will allow students to improve their fluency skills in addition and subtraction.

Donations towards this project will grant center materials that I do not have.

With the new material, instead of students working at their desk, they can participate in groups at different learning stations. Through active involvement students are able to learn the skills taught from their textbook through enjoyable educational activities.
