My Students
My students come to school eager and ready to learn. I not only teach them the required Common Core but also lifelong lessons that will help them in the future. Specifically, I teach them to have a Growth Mindset. This "Mindset" teaches them to learn and improve, challenge themselves, persevere, and understand that mistakes help them learn. I love it when parents tell me that their child loves coming to school. This positive attitude will hopefully make them lifelong learners.
My Project
My students need books that interest them. It is difficult to get students to read for pleasure when they are not interested in the books available to them. My goal is to have a classroom library of books available to my 6th grade students that they are curious about. I believe students with curious minds become motivated to read for enjoyment instead of just another thing their teacher makes them do.
Students are more likely to become life long readers when they have a selection of books that they are motivated to read.
The more they read the better their literacy skill will improve. A group table will allow the class to participate in "book club" type discussions about what they are reading. Please help make this happen for my students.
