Motivation for Struggling Readers

Help me give my students prizes and fidgets to keep them motivated and engaged.

My Project

By the time they reach middle school, my students have been struggling with reading for years. This means that they can get discouraged when it comes to working on these skills. Using prizes to motivate my students helps them to get past that and to have something to look forward to about reading intervention.

When my students have the opportunity to earn prizes for their efforts, they are more motivated to work on their reading skills.

They are empowered to participate in class discussions and to put effort into assignments so that they can earn ClassDojo points and then redeem those points for prizes.

In addition, many of my students are sensory learners and benefit from them use of fidgets. Many of these prizes are items my students could use to fidget with in my classroom as well as in their other classes. Having fidgets like these helps them to better focus on their learning.
